Corel Digital Studio 2010 – Review and Giveaway

This contest is now ended.

Congratulations to Karen on being the winner of this giveaway!

I had the opportunity to try out Corel Digital Studio, 2010, thanks to sheblogs.org. I was half excited about using it, half dreading it Usually computer programs leave me confused and frustrated. Not this!  This loaded easily onto my computer and then, figuring it out was a dream!  Simple as 1-2-3.

As soon as it was loaded onto my computer, I received a prompt, asking if I wanted photo and video files on my computer merged into the software. Of course I said yes. Anything that does something automatically is a great thing in my book! Just like that, everything in my hard drive, was in both the photo and video program that comes with the Digital Studio package.

Paintshop Photo Express

I played with the Corel Paintshop first. It was so easy, I was amazed. I had options of making photo books (I’m thinking Christmas presents this coming year!), a slideshow, a calendar (another future Christmas present), a collage, and a card. It was as simple as selecting which option I wanted to go with and then selecting what pictures I wanted to use from the files. Then, the program simply put them into place for me! I did my collage in less than five minutes.

If I had wanted, immediately after making this, I could have selected an option that would allow me to share this on Flickr or Facebook, through email, or put it on DVD.

The editing part of the program doesn’t give you a ton of options like some photo editing software but for those that don’t want to do fancy things with their photos, what you can do will be sufficient: crop, rotate, sharpen, remove red eye, and adjust color brightness.

I then created a slide show which was as easy as as the collage. That was done within 15 minutes. The time it took was more devoted to figuring out what pictures to use, than it was struggling to figure out how to make it.

Corel Video Studio Express 2010

Next I played around with making a movie. This too was simple, using the videos I have on my computer. It wasn’t as seamless as some video makers I’ve used but still pretty simple to use. I found the inserting text a bit frustrating at times, because I struggled with getting it right where I wanted it, but I figured it out (though for some reason it didn’t upload to youtube. ???)

Additional Features

Corel Digital Studio 2010 also has a DVD/Video player that delivers with sharp clarity, anything you may choose to watch, including DVD-Video, QuickTime, Windows Media, M2T, and M2TS.  Using this program, you can bookmark your favorite scenes.

There is also a DVD factory, in which you can back up your photos, videos, and music on CD’s and DVD’s. Users also have the capability to transfer media from their computer to their iPod’s, PSP, and/or mobile phone. Lastly, options are given to upload directly to YouTube, Facebook, and Flickr.

Win It!

Ends March 6th

I get to give one of these away – a $99.99 value! To enter, leave a comment, with your contact email, about what feature you would most like to use.
