Legends in the Kitchen: Celebrity Recipes for a Cause, compiled by Mrs. Howard Keel & Linda F. Radke, is a fun, down to earth cookbook with recipes from some of my favorite stars down through the years. This cookbook really took me back in the day, featuring stars I remember from my childhood; we watched a lot of older movies and shows with stars like Debbie Reynolds, Stefanie Powers, Betty White, James Garner, Dick Clark, Burt Reynolds, Andy Williams, etc.
The cookbook is laid out with different sections for Main Dishes, Vegetables & Sides, Soups, Salads, Desserts, Appetizers & Dips, Breads & Rolls, and Miscellaneous. Each recipe features the celebrity and a quote from them on one page, while the second page holds the actual recipe. There are also other quirky quotes throughout. The book is illustrated and put together in an attractive, organized manner. With recipes that include Cheese Enchiladas to Jade Empress Chicken to Ruth’s Mystery Meat to Beef Stew with Walnuts to Fire and Ice to Pat’s Immune Booster….this cookbook has a great variety of recipes for any appetite.
Being a fan of enchiladas and any type of Mexican dish, I am excited to try my hand at making Debbie Reynolds’ Cheese Enchiladas. The recipe actually calls for very normal, down to earth ingredients, no hunting for hard-to-find ingredients that I’ve never heard of. Most of the recipes in this cookbook are like that, very down-to-earth, and they look delicious.
You can purchase Legends in the Kitchen from Five Star Publications for $13.64. A portion of the proceeds goes to benefit the Motion Picture & Television Fund, a nonprofit organization that has been serving people in the entertainment industry with a vast array of services and programs including: health centers, retirement living, social and charitable services, elder connection, the Samuel Goldwyn Foundation Children’s Center and more since 1921. If you’re looking for a cookbook that’s slightly different and lighthearted….one that is relaxing to look through….I definitely recommend Legends in the Kitchen.
