SYL: Free Art Project

Don’t ever think that your family can’t make a difference….just like today’s featured guests, your family can shine a light, even in your own neighborhood.:) Derek, Rye, and Haye, over at Free Art Project, are a family who paint; they paint pictures and inspiring words on cardboard, and then they post that art in their neighborhood. They have one particular fence that they frequent….

This all started as a family activity just for fun, but when they put up their first sign on an abandoned house in their neighborhood, a sign which read Hope, it started the project. They’ve actually had people take their art, and that’s ok. They put it out there to inspire and give hope to others.

What they do is they paint the pictures, and sometimes before the picture’s even dry, they’ll take a trip to put the pictures up, using only zip ties and the fence. It’s a pretty cool way to spruce up a neighborhood. Personally, I can’t get over the Hope picture left at the abandoned house….it really does inspire, and to me, it’s almost a mental image that even when everything seems hopeless, there is still hope….

Want to get involved? Well, this family wants you to get out your paints and show some love to your own neighborhood. They want you to share your art with the world! And you don’t have to be an artist to do so. Just paint what comes, and find your own fence to put it up on. Then email the pictures to thefreeartproject@gmail.com, so they can share them on their blog. What a great way to shine your light!

Thank you so much to Sarah at The Fifth Street Palace for first writing about this family, letting us all know about their story.
