Wonder Hanger Review/Giveaway

Mel’s Thoughts:

Crowded closets spell clutter….clutter spells “annoying,” especially when you’re trying to find something that has gotten lost amidst all of that clutter.  Of course, it would be nice to have a simple solution to all of that “clutter” that is hanging on our closet racks, huh?  I know that I’d love a solution for my coat closet, which is overcrowded indeed.  Thankfully, we were fortunate enough to be able to give the Wonder Hanger a try.

I’ve seen the Wonder Hanger on tv at different times, but until I used it, I really didn’t understand how it fully worked.  It’s actually a pretty wonderful space saving tool.  I’m actually going to give you both my and my husband’s opinions of the Wonder Hanger.  The Wonder Hanger is a collapsible type of hanger.  You can hang up to 5 items of clothing on it; my husband claims you can hang 10, but I was afraid it’d be too much of a stress on the plastic hanger, so I went with 5, although the Wonder Hanger can hold up to 20 pounds.  How it works is you put the hooks on either end of the plastic bar.  Once you hang those hooks on your closet rod, there are 5 notches in the long, plastic portion of the hanger.  You can insert a hanger/item of clothing into each notch.  Once you’ve done that, you then remove either hook from the closet rod, and voila, the Wonder Hanger collapses down, hanging each item of clothing at an angle.  It works with any type of hanger: wire, wooden, plastic, etc.  Here are some of the items it’s great for: Ideal for apartments, dorms, & downsizing; great for seasonal storage; also perfect for purses & belts.  It is supposed to “triple” your closet space.

Now, I will say it was fairly easy to put together, plus it’s pretty easy to “open” and “close” on the rack, unless you have clothes just pushed up against it as tightly as they will go.  I thought that it saved a lot of space, mainly on your closet rod.  Dan differed, saying it does save closet rod space, but the clothes are still there, hanging together, taking up space; they’re just hanging down lower.  I agree with him,in that they do hang lower and take up more space below, so if you have stuff stacked, your clothes may hang down over it; but , in my opinion, the clothes are hung at an angle, so it really does seem to save a lot of room, rather than having them totally bunched up together on the rod.

I decided to give these hangers a try in my kids’ closet, since they have a bunch of clothes that are constantly getting ripped off hangers and falling in the floor. Clothes that hang in their closet are mainly church/nice clothes anyway, so they’re not in every day use, plus their clothes are shorter, meaning they won’t hang down as low. This way, I can have their clothes pushed toward the back of the closet more, taking up a lot less space, meaning they can get to their drawers more easily, as well as their toys that are stacked in their closet.  My only qualm with the Wonder Hanger is that Jacob’s clothes actually do hang a little lower, so they might get in the way of the stuff that’s stacked in the very back, and our closet rods have divisions, so if I want to remove clothing, I have to pick up the whole hanger and move it over to give it more room before “opening” it up.  All in all, though, this hanger works really well for their clothes.  As you can see, they have tons more room now.  I could even hang a couple of hooks on the back wall for hoodies, if needed. You can purchase the Wonder Hanger for $9.99, plus P&H.  In fact, right now, they have a buy one, get one free deal, in which you’ll receive a total of 10 Wonder Hangers….which means you’ll be able to hang at least 50 garments.

Melissa J’s Thoughts

It tends to be a not-so-funny joke in this house, that my husband gets the walk in closet, while i get a little “maid’s closet” for my clothes. It makes sense. He does have more clothes than I do. Still, my closet is pretty crowded. I had wanted to try Wonder Hangers but just hadn’t even invested in them.

I found them easy to assemble, though it did take a bit of muscle power to insert the rounded hooks into the straight bar. Using them was straight forward and not at all hard to figure out.  I did run into some negatives however.

1. My closet was so jam packed to begin with that I had no room to hand the entire bar up so that I could insert clothes on to it. I had no desire to put my other clothes on my bed to do this, as I’m short on time, so I simple put the wonder hanger in the downward position and hung my clothes on that way.

2. My husband has this thing for big thick hangers. The white ones you can find at Walmart. *shrugs* Don’t ask me why, but that’s the hanger he always buys. These don’t fit on the Wonder Hanger! Total frustration, as for the sake of the review, I had to transfer clothes over to hangers I had in storage, to use the Wonder Hanger.

In the end, it did create more space. However, not enough for my closet.

I still don’t have the room to lift the entire bar up to choose my item of clothing–and to take the pieces off as the Hanger is in the downward position.

The Wonder Hanger is a fabulous thing to have, but ironically, only if you have hangers small enough and a space large enough to use it in Perhaps in time I can invest in hangers small enough and buy more Wonder Hangers to use, which will then allow me to use them correctly-in which case, they will be well worth the investment.
