The kids and I are constantly on the hunt for great music to listen to; you can usually find us browsing the CDs at the library, just to find something different and fun. The Not-Its! is a great band that records rockin’ music for kids. I love their saying, “CAUTION: Music to be listened to under the supervision of children!”
Time Out to Rock! is a CD that will get any kid, and maybe even the parents, dancin’ around the living room. With upbeat songs that are full of energy, they make a great CD for a dreary day or even a trip to Tae Kwon Do. Through the use of guitars and four-part harmonies, they make the music come alive. The music is more of an Indie style pop music.
Just to tell you a little bit about the members of the band….Sarah Shannon, of Velocity Girl, along with friends, decided to start The Not-Its! as a way to share music with other families/kids, as well as raise money for worthy causes. Danny Adamson is the rhythm guitarist/singer, and used to work as a social worker, working with homeless youth.  Mike Bayer is the drummer and gives lessons to kids. Tom Baisden is the lead guitarist and also teaches elementary school, working with children with special needs. Nori Hoeft, the bassist and backup singer, works at the Samarya Center, where she teaches kids with different challenges, such as autism. I think it’s neat to sorta get to know the band members, as they’re not just a band. They’re real people with their own families and work, and they’re people making a difference.
You can listen to some of their music here. Here’s a run-down of what songs are on this CD:
- Welcome to Our School
- Time Out to Rock
- First Kid in Outer Space
- Green Light, Go!
- Accidentally
- Say it Loudly
- Cheetah the Buffalo
- FANTASTIC
- Only Kids Can See
- Change My Luck
- Hollow Tree
The songs’ subject matter have to do with subjects and events that kids face every day, from school to friends to building a treehouse, etc. My two favorite songs have to be Time Out to Rock and Cheetah the Buffalo.  Time Out to Rock is just an upbeat, rockin’ song that makes me want to sing along with it. Cheetah the Buffalo has a great message to it; it’s about a buffalo that isn’t quite like all the others. With 30 minutes of music, and geared for ages 3-7, it’s definitely a great CD. You can purchase Time Out to Rock! for $14.00.

well, i couldn’t get any of their music to play but the reviews of the album look really good!
I couldn’t get the music to play either. But, I love that you can tell the performers really love what they’re doing.
I like that they also raise funds for many charities.
I like that they are from here in Seattle, and that the music is fun!
