Our family has gone digital in so many ways. Diving into the world of blogging and social media has really given me the opportunity to use my voice via different devices, as well, whether it be my phone, my computer, or even the family iPad. Of course, I also want to protect these devices, especially the ones I know my boys will be using. Though we try to teach them to take care of their things, boys are still rough and tumble, and things happen.
Cygnett gave us the opportunity to try out a few different cases. They design and manufacture cases and accessories for electronic devices, including the iPhone, iPad, and iPod. One thing I really appreciate is that their packaging is recyclable and partly biodegradable. The first device I was concerned about protecting was our family iPad. As expensive as it is, I really wanted a case that would give it an extra bit of protection and make it easier to carry with us. Our favorite case was the Lavish Earth case, which is designed for both the new iPad and the iPad 2. It comes in 3 different colors: black, purple, and sandstone. We have the sandstone color, and the case is made out of a soft, leathery type of material. The case feels very sturdy, and not only does it fold shut like a book, but it can also be opened up and set at 3 different viewing angles, making it very easy to use on desktop, on an airplane fold-out tray, etc. The case also includes the hole for the camera and has a magnetic closure which activates the sleep/wake function. This happens to be our favorite case; it’s very durable and stylish, plus both Dan and I are comfortable carrying it around with the neutral color scheme.
The next case we tried was the Alumni iPad case for both the new iPad and iPad 2. This case is quite colorful, available in 4 different colors; we received it in cobalt. The case is a folio type case that folds open like a book; it has a magnetic closure that activates the sleep/wake function. It’s made out of a canvas type material. It too has the camera hole on the back. The case is quite simple, and the main thing I love about it is the color. The iPad slides right in and fits securely, as well.
The Apollo Hybrid Case for both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S is a dual-material case that comes in 3 different colors; we received white. The case fits quite snugly but is also easily removed. It comes with a screen protector, which was a huge plus. The silicone interior is designed to absorb shock so that it protects the phone if dropped. The outside of the cover is designed to resist both scratching and fingerprints. The case also has raised side edges to further protect the touchscreen. Dan used this case during our vacation, and he liked the durability of the case, but he wished that it had more grip to it. The case is hard and doesn’t really have a place to grip well…. this is important to him as he’s pretty bad about dropping his phone. Otherwise, this case was fantastic. The buttons were easy to access, as well.
The Aerosphere Bubble-Effect Case for both iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S is an awesome looking case that really gives the appearance of bubble wrap. It comes in 2 colors; we received black. The case material almost reminds me of the old jelly shoes from the 80′s; it’s made out of TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane), which makes it resistant to scratches, impacts, and tears. The case also comes with a screen protector and microfiber cleaning cloth, as well as a 2 year manufacturer’s warranty. All of the buttons are easy to access with this case, except we had a difficult time with the power button. The button tends to make it difficult to access the power button for the phone, so that was something we didn’t quite care for. To be honest, it actually deterred us from wanting to use the case. One thing I do like about the case, however, is the strong, durable material that makes it very protective…. and I love the look too. It has that bubble wrap appearance, but the apple on my phone also shines through, and it just looks awesome.
Finally, the boys have been using the PlayUp Hybrid Case for their iPod Touch. This case is available in 3 colors; we received black. This case also comes with a screen protector. It’s built out of dual material, including a silicone interior and a hard, glossy outer case. All of the buttons and even the touchscreen are easy to access with this case, no issues there. Jacob said that he likes the fact that since it’s a hard case it’s easy to slide in and out of his pocket. The only thing he didn’t like is that it’s a slicker material, so he’s afraid he’s going to drop his iPod. The case is quite classic looking with a modern appeal.
