Chore Charts Meet the Laminator {Giveaway}

(This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to Jennifer Doe on winning this giveaway! Thank you to all who entered.)

Back to school is soon upon us, and I’ve been hastily trying to prepare for the new school year. I’ll admit that I used to be pretty organized, but something happened somewhere along the way. My house kinda took a backseat to priorities. Don’t get me wrong, our house is clean…. it’s just harder to stay on top of things. Especially with homeschooling and working, chores can pile up. So, this year I’m determined to get and stay organized, and one way is by having visual chore charts for the boys so they know exactly how they can help out and do their part in the household realm.

After finding printable chore charts on a favorite homeschool blog, I decided to print them out on cardstock and laminate. That’s where the Fellowes Saturn2 95 Laminator came in. This laminator has a very heavy-duty feel to it and even has a carry handle, making it convenient to move from my desk to my craft area or even out to the kitchen table. It’s very simple to use, which is a huge plus. Ready to laminate my chore charts, I turned it on in the back, and the “Safe Start” function automatically set the cold lamination setting. The laminator can do both cold or hot lamination, and it has HeatGuard™ Technology, meaning that heat is kept inside the machine by a double layer of insulation. This, in turn, means that fingers won’t get burnt by touching the machine. For hot lamination, I just had to select the correct setting, which was 3 Mil. The machine had to warm up for a few minutes, so this gave me time to prepare my chore charts and lamination pouches. It’s important to make sure that the documents being laminated are centered in the lamination pouch. When the machine was ready to laminate, the button stopped flashing and stayed on. It also gave a sound signal. One thing I really appreciated, as I began to laminate, were the paper guide marks on the machine. These helped me to keep the chore charts centered and in place as I entered them into the laminator, sealed edge of the pouch first. Each of the pouches slowly went through the machine and came out perfectly and smoothly laminated…. no bubbles at all. I was really impressed because I’ve laminated items before and had a bit of an issue with air bubbles. Not so with this machine or these pouches. The manual does recommend using Fellowes brand pouches. (Warning: This is common sense, but the documents will be hot coming out of the laminator, so handle with care.)

The Saturn2 95 Laminator can laminate 3 Mil, 4 Mil, 5 Mil, and 5 Mil cold pouches; cold is used for self-adhesive pouches. It also has a release lever in the back, just in case you experience a jam or have issues and need to pull the pouch out mid-lamination. I was surprised to learn that there are cleaning sheets available for the laminator; they’re run through the machine and help to clean the rollers. Another positive note about the laminator, because I truly do value this tool, is the fact that it’s fairly compact, meaning it’s easy to store away until I need to use it; it doesn’t take up a lot of space.

You can purchase the Fellowes Saturn2 95 Laminator for $159.99. I’ve heard, through the grapevine, that Staples is having a lot of great sales on this particular laminator. The sky’s the limit as to how it can be used. I plan to use it for household, homeschool, and work needs. Some ideas are dry erase pages for the kids, menus, a household organizer, and more. You can find lots of great ideas and a giveaway opportunity at the Fellowes Idea Center.

    I would use it for my Wildtree business. We have what we call Tent Cards, and they are product descriptions of the items we sell. They really need to be laminated since we sell food products. If at a tasting, a customer were to drip something on them and they weren’t laminated then they would have to be reprinted.
