When I was a teenager, I read as many Janette Oke books as I could get my hands on. So, I’m really excited to share the news about a new cable television series, based on Janette’s bestselling book series. Tonight at 9 pm EST (8 pm CST), When Calls the Heart, a new Hallmark Channel Original Series, premieres.
This past weekend we had a chance to watch the movie pilot for When Calls the Heart, and it was so good. The movie begins the story of Elizabeth Thatcher, a young woman determined to travel West to teach, following in the steps of her courageous aunt for who she’s named. The end of the movie honestly left us hanging just a bit, with Elizabeth in the small coal mining town of Coal Valley, accepting probably one of the most challenging teaching positions a young first-time teacher could ask for. You see, the town and mine had just lost several men to a tragic explosion, leaving several wives and children husbandless and fatherless.
In the series premiere, we’ll most likely find Elizabeth getting acquainted with her new position and the families in Coal Valley. But there’s also a hint of love in the air, with the addition of a certain Mountie, Jack Thornton, who also becomes Constable of Coal Valley.
Directed by Michael Landon Jr., the movie stars Erin Krakow (from Army Wives), Daniel Lissing, and Lori Loughlin (from Full House). If the show is anything like Janette’s books, it’s sure to be a series that will capture the heart and leave viewers wanting more.
Will you be watching? Which Janette Oke books are your favorites?
