Grandma used to make the best Snickerdoodles…. they may have been the dessert she was most famous for, at least in our eyes. They were melt-in-your mouth sweetness. As I was browsing through her old edition of the Betty Crocker’s Cookbook, I found the recipe with all of her notes beside it.
A printable recipe is below, for your convenience. Once the cookie dough is mixed up, though, it’s time to roll spoonfuls of it into dough balls and dip it in a cinnamon/sugar mixture.
They go in the oven for about 8-10 minutes, depending on how chewy or crispy you prefer your Snickerdoodles to be…. let them cool, and enjoy!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 3/4 cups flour
- 2 tsp cream of tartar
- 1 tsp soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix butter, shortening, sugar, and the eggs. Blend in flour, cream of tartar, soda, and salt. Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls.
Mix 2 tablespoons sugar and the cinnamon, and roll dough balls in mixture. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until done. Remove from baking sheet, and let cool. Most of all, enjoy!
