Kids, Teeth, & the Waterpik Water Flosser

Ok, so as of this past weekend, I really didn’t know what Waterpik was….I had no idea there was even such a thing as a water flosser. Call me backwoods, out of the loop, whatever….we’d just always used regular string floss. Who knew there was an easier way to floss teeth? I bet if more parents knew this was an option, there’d be way less cavities in this world (just my opinion….Disclaimer: I make no claims as to the effectiveness of this machine at cavity prevention….all words are my own opinions from personal experience with the product). Now that that’s out of the way….I’m going to dish about the latest parenting tool, which I happened to find in Parents Magazine. Yeah, tooth care is definitely parenting, and my dentist is NOT afraid to tell me if I’m not doing a good job with my boys’ teeth. So, what is the Waterpik Water Flosser? It is a flossing machine, simply put. Instead of string, you use water. The pressure of the water on the gums forces the food and plaque out from between the teeth. It’s definitely an easier, more comfortable way to floss teeth, and it’s guaranteed to be 3x’s as effective as flossing, 5x’s as effective as brushing alone. If you’ve been to the dentist, you’ve probably had water sprayed in your mouth. This is the same concept. It’s pressurized water (adjustable) flowing around the gums and between the teeth as your child points the sprayer around the top of the gum line, swishing between the teeth. Why did I want to try this? I wanted to try it because I admit….I’m not the most faithful at flossing. I’ve been thinking I really need to be flossing their teeth (especially with an approaching appointment, like, tomorrow???), but it’s such a chore. Not that it’s not totally worth it and doesn’t need done….it does. But why not cut some of the hassle, especially if there is a better, more effective way? My oldest has had cavities, and it’s not something I want for him. I want him to go to the dentist and get that clean bill of teeth, so to say. I want him to walk out, not having to return for another 6 months. My youngest likes to eat the sweets. Though he is limited, I’m still concerned about his teeth.

We are now using this flosser, and my boys actually look forward to using it. It’s one of the fun chores they enjoy. Jacob’s pretty much able to handle it by himself, but Jaden needs a bit of help. We’ve started out with the lowest setting, but we’ll gradually increase the pressure for a better cleaning. I will say that the process is a bit messy and needs to be done over a sink, washrag in hand. We had more than one instance of spray all over the mirror, just getting used to the flosser.

You can purchase the Waterpik Water Flosser at Walmart for around $50, plus there is a coupon in this month’s issue of Parents Magazine for $5 off! Be sure to check it out! I’d also recommend separate tips for all children (to prevent transfer of germs). Also, be sure to supervise when flosser is in use by children of any age.

We work hard as parents….why not take just one tedious task on our parenting journey and turn it into something fun, not to mention easy? Who knows….it may lead to just another 6 month checkup.

Traveling with Vera Bradley

The MamaBuzz Roadtrip is in full swing, and with it comes the need for great luggage! Sometimes there’s a need for big luggage to hold all our day to day stuff, but then there’s also a need to maybe pack an overnight bag or even a bag to hold all those things I’ll need to get to when we’re driving during the day.

Vera Bradley is a brand of luggage, wallets, cosmetic bags, etc., made out of quilted cotton in a vast array of colorful floral prints. Their products definitely give a feminine touch to luggage and bags of all types. I was thrilled to review a set for our trip, and I’d actually already used the set on an overnight trip with my hubby. Here’s a basic rundown of each product in the set that we received:

Get Carried Away Tote in Watercolor- This tote is actually quite large. It was the perfect size for an overnight getaway; of course, it’d also be perfect for a trip to the beach or even a girl’s getaway weekend. On the outside of the bag, it has 4 large pockets, and the arm straps are a good size for carrying over the shoulder; they have shoulder pads that make it more comfortable to carry the bag around. If you want to close the bag, it has a zippered enclosure; this zippered enclosure actually folds down out of the way if you prefer to keep the bag open. I like this because sometimes I do want to close it, but other times I have the bag stuffed to the gills with no room to zipper it shut. It’s not as easy to carry on my shoulder if it’s too full, but I like that feature. Inside the bag are 8 pockets, 2 of which are lined with plastic with an elastic top, so they hold things in better. I love the quiet color tones of this bag with its soft purples, green, and almost a robin egg blue. It feels great to carry this bag around; I feel very chic and stylish using this tote. You can purchase the Get Carried Away Tote in Watercolor or other designs for $92.

Travel Cosmetic in Watercolor- This cosmetic bag is my absolute favorite. I’ve always wanted something beautiful to carry my makeup in, though it’s hard to find a sturdy product that’ll stand the test of time. This bag is not only gorgeous, but it’s very sturdy, as well. It’s a good size with 8 dividers inside to help you organize your cosmetics. It also has a zippered inner pocket, perfect for holding some of my little stuff that could easily get lost in the mix. The lining is a soft taffeta, and the bag itself has a carry handle, making it convenient to tote around. I’ve actually switched to this cosmetic bag for everyday use, as well as travel; I love it that much. You can purchase the Travel Cosmetic in Watercolor or other designs for $48.

Travel Wallet in Watercolor- The Travel Wallet is a handy way to keep all of your travel documents (passport, I.D., boarding passes, etc.) in one easy-to-reach place. You can stick it right inside your tote or handbag, which is rather nice. I’m guilty of putting my boarding passes inside the book I’m reading while traveling, which is really actually quite risky; I could so easily lose them. This keeps them safe and sound. The wallet has pockets for credit cards, as well, and it has a magnetic closure. You can purchase the Travel Wallet in Watercolor or other designs for $42.

Vera Bradley offers a style that not many other designers or brands offer….the style is quilted on every product, leading to a beautiful look for women who are on the go. There is a design for every taste. You can find Vera Bradley on Facebook and follow @verabradley on Twitter.

Just an fyi, as well, that Vera Bradley not only carries travel gear, but they also carry a full line of party and paper products perfect for your next get-together.
