Kim & Scott’s Gourmet Pretzels Review & Giveaway

My husband really loves pretzels. When we first started dating, he actually introduced me to real pretzels, soft pretzels, at our local mall back then, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Even now he loves a good pretzel, so introduction to Kim & Scott’s Gourmet Pretzels was an exciting thing for both of us, as we’d both never heard of this company that’s been around since 1995.

Just to give you a little background, Kim & Scott’s Gourmet Pretzels started in Kim’s small studio apartment kitchen and expanded from there. Now their pretzels are sold at grocery stores (Albertson’s, Target, Walmart, etc.), at Barnes & Noble, and even on QVC (where they sold 150,000+ pretzels in only 12 minutes when they introduced the product there).

Personally, what I like about these pretzels is that they are a healthier alternative, and they are homemade, twisted by hand. Each and every pretzel is. They are made of all-natural, premium ingredients like whole grains. They have no trans fats and no hydrogenated oils, as well as no preservatives. They’re made in a nut-free environment and are vegetarian. The fact that each one is twisted by hand is just a quality you don’t normally see in store-bought foods and products. Not only that, but we tried several flavors, and they were so easy to cook; they were microwaveable, cooking in less than a minute in most cases. Of course, you can use the oven if desired, but even that doesn’t take very long, 7 minutes at the most. They were definitely a quick, easy snack when in a hurry. Also, one thing I noticed was that the microwave didn’t make them tough; they were still soft and delicious.

So, what flavors do they carry? They carry an assortment of mouth-watering flavors like Sourdough Asiago, Pizza Pretzel, Twisted Omelette, Spinach Feta Pretzel, Mixed Berry Cobbler, Cinnamon Roll, Original Cheesecake, etc. You can even order Sampler Packs with your favorite flavors. We tried a few different flavors, including the following:

  • Grilled Cheese- These pretzels were truly like having a soft grilled cheese sandwich. They were stuffed with real cheddar cheese and had cheese sprinkled on top. They were very flavorful and delicious.
  • Pizza Pretzel- This was my absolute favorite flavor of all. The pretzels were delicious, filled with mozzarella cheese and homemade pizza sauce. They also had cheese and Italian spices sprinkled on top, making the flavors come together. These pretzels tasted like a cheese pizza. Being a stuffed pretzel, the filling wasn’t sparse; it was a generous filling throughout the pretzel and was just absolutely yummy.
  • Apple Cinnamon- These pretzels were like having an apple pie without all the work. They would go well with some vanilla ice cream. The pretzels were filled with apple pie filling (homemade) and had a crumb topping made of cinnamon and sugar. They were another favorite for us, providing a sweet treat.
  • Chocolate Crumb- If you want a richer, sweeter treat, these are the pretzels to try. The pretzels themselves are a chocolate dough, and then they’re filled with a creamy fudge filling. They also have a chocolate crumb top. The pretzels were nice for a chocolate fix, though they were very rich; a whole pretzel was almost too much, even for me. Again the filling is very generous but not too much.
  • Cheddar Jalapeno- These pretzels are a spicy fix; Dan liked these and ate them up. They’re stuffed with cheddar cheese, jalapenos, and spices. They have a cheese/jalapeno topping, as well. They were like having Jalapeno Poppers, only in a larger form.

All in all, the pretzels were a delicious treat for us all. The boys really liked the Pizza Pretzels, as did I. I would definitely love to try more flavors, which is why I’ll have to keep my eyes open for them at my local store. Not only that, but another thing about this company is that they are trying to make a difference; you can check out their Pretzels with a Purpose page to see the things they are involved in helping with, including donating pretzels to food banks. I love to help support companies with a passion for making a difference. You can actually buy Kim & Scott’s Gourmet Pretzels online, or you can find out where to buy locally.

Snap Fashion Jewelry Studio Review, Discount & Giveaway

I’ll be honest from the get-go and let you know that we don’t have a little girl; however, I have personally tried this product out (since my boys aren’t really that into jewelry) and am so excited to be reviewing it. I tried to limit myself, though, as I plan to give it to my best friend’s little girl. However, this little studio could become quite addictive because it’s so much fun! The Snap Fashion Jewelry Studio, from SmartLab Toys is in one word….Awesome! I was thinking the whole time I was “playing,” that this would have been something I would have absolutely loved when I was a little girl. It’s the perfect toy to get those creative juices flowing.

If you haven’t heard of SmartLab Toys, now is the time to check them out. They offer all kinds of educational and creative toys that are fun for the whole family really. I could totally see sitting down and playing with the jewelry studio, alongside a little girl. I met with SmartLab Toys while at Toy Fair 2011 in NYC, and I was immediately drawn in by all of their wonderful products for both boys and girls, younger children and older children. The Snap Fashion Jewelry Studio is for ages 7 and up.

With the Snap Fashion Jewelry Studio, budding fashionistas can make their own handmade fabric-covered snaps that serve to make a host of different jewelry pieces. There is an instructional book that comes with the kit, and it tells about the pieces inside the kit, including the Snap Maker, Fabric Circles, birthstone gems, and all jewelry pieces, as well as a photo transfer sheet. There are a few items, throughout the book, that might need to be purchased, or you might have to see if you have laying around the house, such as acetone (nail polish remover). Each craft lets you know what you need, if anything other than what’s in your kit. Each craft will also tell the fashionista if she needs adult help. There are symbols with each craft that parents can look for, making it super easy to see if that craft is ok left unsupervised; I love that feature.

Now with this kit, crafts include rings, bracelets, single or double charm necklaces, monogrammed jewelry, Birthstone Bling, lockets, friendship jewelry, gifts, belts, hair pieces, key chains, shoe flair, etc. There are instructions for every single craft. This book also teaches somewhat about fashion, as the reader gets to know about different colors and fabrics, what works better than others, etc. It’s such a great little educational tool. Not only that, but crafters aren’t limited to the fabric circles that are in this kit. They can go out and find their own fabric to make their jewelry, in that way promoting individuality, as well as creativity. One of my favorite pieces within the kit is the Reminder Ring. With this piece, crafters use a piece of fabric that “sparks a memory.” I myself would love to have something so memorable and sentimental.

I actually created a ring and a hairpiece with the kit, just a regular ring. I used one of the fabric circles provided and inserted it into the snap maker with the dome. Then I just pressed down the arm of the snap maker, raised the arm, and placed a back onto the snap maker. After pressing down the snap maker once more (until I felt and heard a click), I pushed the release button, and voila! I had a snap! Then I just inserted that snap into one of the plastic rings provided. It was very cute.I also used that same snap to make a hair pin.I absolutely love the Snap Fashion Jewelry Studio and want to recommend it to all of my readers. It would make a great gift item for birthdays or holidays, as it would definitely provide hours of creative fun and promote individuality and style amongst young crafters. It’s also the perfect thing to keep hands busy during summer break. There are currently no refill kits available, although you can call Customer Service, as refills are given on an individual basis. SmartLab Toys may have refill kits available as early as this fall, though, as many customers are inquiring about them. You can purchase this kit for $24.99, which is also an awesome price for such a wonderful kit. Not only that, but SmartLab Toys is offering MamaBuzz readers a discount of 25% by using the code: BLOGBUZZ at checkout; this offer expires June 30, 2011. Be sure to check out The Free Zone! for great kids’ activities from SmartLab Toys.
