SYL: Feeding America

When I read that approximately 96 billion pounds of food go to waste every single year, it was hard for me to comprehend that figure.  Feeding America works hard every year to provide food to more than 37 million people, putting a damper on all that waste.  Millions of these people include children and the elderly.

This holiday season, you can give back to help feed Americans.  A fellow blogger friend, Kim (aka, Crafty Mama of 4), has started her own virtual canned food drive with Feeding America.  Every $5 she raises will provide 35 meals.  That is a LOT of people who will go to bed with a full stomach, rather than the empty, gnawing pangs of hunger.  This is America….hunger just shouldn’t be; my personal thoughts are that we should be able to help each other.  This country is so large, and we have so much….That’s not all, though.  Every dollar Kim raises, Libby’s will match, up to $40,000!  Her goal is to reach $300.  Let’s make it happen.  As she suggests, dig out those old gift cards with only a few dollars remaining; you know the ones….they’ve sat in your wallet because they only have a couple dollars on them.  Even just give $1.

Not only can you give, but you can start your own virtual food drive.  To see how your dollars will be put into action for hungry Americans, be sure to check out this page.  Also, be sure to Like Feeding America on Facebook, and follow @FeedingAmerica on Twitter.

Together, let’s help Kim, Feeding America, and Libby’s fight hunger!  Shine Your Light!

SYL: Help the Irby Family & Donate $1

This weekend I got to thinking about my best friend from college, Nancy Irby, who is staying in a hotel room with her daughter right now, while her husband receives the life-saving treatment that he needs for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.I’ve been providing updates about Aaron for some time now.  Aaron has now had his stem cell transplant, so the last week has been one of the most difficult periods of time for him, a very rough week, as his immune system/blood cells begin the process of rebuilding within his body.  He needs much prayer; however, they are also faced with medical bills which are sometimes getting pushed to the back burner, in order to try to stay on top of their living expenses/home bills.  God continues to provide, as Aaron has had to be out of work for some time now.

As you look back and maybe read Aaron’s story, please consider donating just $1. You can also join their Facebook group, Praying for Aaron Irby, which will help you stay up to date.  I got to thinking….if every single one of my followers would donate just $1 to this family, that would be over $1,100.  If all my Twitter followers and Facebook fans would donate just $1, that would just be all the more help for Aaron, Nancy, and Rebekah.  So, I’m asking you to maybe forego that can of soda for just one day….or maybe forego that candy bar….maybe forego that movie rental….and pay it forward….give just $1. All you have to do is click the Donate button below, and follow the steps.  It’s super easy and doesn’t take but a few seconds.

With the holidays fast approaching, let’s pay it forward, $1 at a time.

(All funds will go directly towards Nancy & Aaron Irby; the account is labeled as Praying for Aaron Irby; all transactions are secure through Paypal.)
