60 Day SlimDown System with Lindsay Brin/Giveaway

With the start of a new year, resolutions and goals can be read on just about any blog or website. It’s a fresh start, a chance to wipe the slate clean and start anew. With being a part of the Lean 11, I’m especially trying to get back into an exercise routine. I will say that I’m not especially fond of DVD workouts, but I do like to incorporate them into my workouts every so often, just to give variety. Lindsay Brin has an exciting workout system from Moms Into Fitness, the 60 Day SlimDown System. I actually am so impressed with Lindsay Brin’s workout system, one reason being her transparency on her own blog. She actually shows her own results through pics and blog posts. It’s not easy being a mom, trying to get that workout in, especially having a newborn in the home. Even though I don’t have a newborn right now, I can still attest to that fact, as I understand the time constraints. Lindsay gives us the tools we need, though, to succeed, even when life’s demands take up so much of our time.

The 60 Day SlimDown System includes 4 DVDs and a downloadable SlimDown Packet. The following is a brief look at each of the DVDs:

  • Core Metabolic Jumpstart- In this DVD, Lindsay and two other workout partners take us through a 23 minute workout meant to boost metabolism and fire up the inner core. In the beginning, Lindsay explains the inner core, muscles, and how fat affects muscles. She explains why it’s important to get that heart rate up, to really work your body out. She focuses on several different exercises, each for 1 minute. All you need for this workout is a ball (even a simple children’s ball) or maybe a set of weights. You can focus on Lindsay or either of her workout partners on the DVD, thereby choosing the beginner, intermediate, or advanced workout. Lindsay says that “variety is the spice of life.” In regards to working different muscle areas in different zones, this is so true.
  • Core Firing Sequence Method- Ok, I did not know that working abs every day could actually result in a bigger waistline; yikes! That’s just one thing I’ve learned through this system. This workout actually helps you to work your abs from the inside out. This workout is focused on toning. There are 3 different phases, and you’ll focus on each one for 3 weeks apiece; each workout is only 7-8 minutes. You might think that toning will not be that great of a workout, but these workouts are not just a cakewalk. They really do work that inner core, helping you to shape up. This workout is designed to help you get that flat tummy back.
  • Shed 5 Fast- I’ve actually reviewed the Shed 5 Fast DVD before. Lindsay has 2 exercise routines set up, and she guarantees that you’ll lose 5 pounds or more in just the first 3 weeks of use.  She recommends using the DVD 3 times a week. The workouts are timed at 30 minutes. You start with a 3 minute warm-up, and then you have 3/3 intervals for 24 minutes. You do 3 minutes of toning (with weights) and 3 minutes of kickboxing, alternating for 24 minutes. You can follow the beginner, intermediate, or advanced workout partner. There is a lot of kicking and punching with the kickboxing….you really work the legs and arms, as well as your core.  With toning, you’re working all sides of your body, from your belly to your obliques to your glutes.
  • Lindsay Brin’s Post Natal Boot Camp- This DVD has so many options, whether you’re strapped for time and need a short but sweet workout….or whether you’ve got time and would prefer the longer workout. There are six different core workouts. Lindsay actually incorporates interval training into these workouts. Workouts might include toning, kickboxing, cardio workouts, pilates, etc. There are Quickstart workouts to choose from, 18-38 minutes each. There is also a 12 week program you can follow. You might even choose to create your own workout. There’s always the option to follow the beginner, intermediate, or advanced workout partner.
  • With the downloadable Slimdown Packet, you’ll receive a 60 day meal plan (meals you can prep for your family, meals that are down to earth foods), a 60 day calendar, progress tracker, etc. The workout calendar is the best part, to me personally, because it maps out exactly what I should do for each phase. It’s one thing I don’t have to think about; I just have to do it.

What are my thoughts on Lindsay Brin’s 60 Day SlimDown System? There is something for everyone, busy or not, new mom or not, in shape or not. I love that I can start out beginner but end up advanced, once my body gets more into shape. Lindsay is encouraging throughout the videos, and she’s a bit easier to follow than other DVDs I’ve tried. Half the reason I haven’t liked DVD workouts is because it’s so hard to keep up. Lindsay actually explains what to do and shows you what to do. That makes it easier for a non-coordinated mama like me.:) I also like the fact that I can choose how much time I want to spend working out; if it’s just a crazy day where I have to run the kids here and there or maybe I have a meeting or tons of business things come up, I can still get a short workout in and know that it’s worth the time, even for just 10 minutes.

You can purchase the 60 Day SlimDown System for $49.99 from Moms Into Fitness. Right now Lindsay is also offering MamaBuzz readers a 30% discount on this 4-DVD set, using the coupon code: 60daydvd30, which expires on January 31.

Just Dance Kids

Ever since I went to Blogher ’10, I’ve been crazy about the Just Dance 2 game.  They had a competition going there, and we could get up on the stage as teams and dance it out.  It was a blast!  So, I’d already determined that I was going to try to get the game after I got home, which we did.:)  Now, though, there is an awesome version for kids.

Just Dance Kids gets kids off the couch and up, dancing their little hearts out.  It’s a very active game that will get your kids exercising without even knowing it.  With over 40 songs to choose from, including pop songs (sung by kids) for the older kids and popular kids’ songs for the younger kids, it’s hard to ever get bored with the selection.  We noticed that there are songs from shows like The Wiggles and Yo Gabba Gabba. Jaden was lovin’ Party In My Tummy.  There are also songs like The Alphabet Song, Wheels on the Bus, etc.  Some of the songs for older kids include Who Let the Dogs Out, AllStar, etc.  Then some of my personal favorites included Mickey, ABC, Kung Fu Fighting, The Hamster Dance Song, etc.  Some of the songs I don’t care to have on a kids’ game, but what I can do, as a parent, is filter which category I want the kids to play; I love that!  Songs can be filtered by age.

With this game, there are three different modes in which you can play.  You can just play the dance mode.  You can play in the team mode, where you all try to get a high team score (this would be great for parties).  You can also play in a Freeze and Shake mode.  When you see the Freeze icon, you’re supposed to actually freeze in place; when you see the Shake icon, you’re supposed to shake the Wii remote.  This gets a LOT of energy out.:)  I also noticed that we could select songs based on level of difficulty and level of energy (or effort) it will take for the songs. If kids have their favorite songs, and they will (Jacob already does), then they can set up their own playlists.  That way when they simply want to play, they can go in and select their playlist and just dance.  There are playlists already in place, such as songs that pertain to Animals, Party, Funny, or Vacation. As a parent, I love the fact that I can not only filter the songs, but I can also track my kids’ progress.  I can see how many calories they burned and their play time.  So, I can see if Jacob’s sticking to his 30 minutes of game time a day, that we’ve allotted him.  This is a fun game for the whole family.  Jaden hasn’t quite got ahold of how to play; he wanted to play, but when he got the Wii remote in his hands, he just stood there watching.  I think he was mesmerized.  The screens are really colorful with actual kids dressed up, dancing.  Players just have to follow their moves.  Some of the kids are in costume, so that makes it even more attractive to kids.  Jacob has a blast playing, and I like that this version is so much more suitable for kids. You can purchase Just Dance Kids for $29.99 from UBIShop.  It’s rated E for Everyone.  It would definitely  make the perfect holiday gift, especially if you want your kids up and moving through these long, cold winter months.  Who knows?  It might even get you moving too….and spending quality time with your kids.:)
