Homeschool Wrap-Up for May 7

Week of Saturday, May 7, Homeschool Wrap-Up
Theme for our studies this week….We’ve been studying air in science all week long….lots of science experiments and projects (my nemesis). I love science, but sometimes the experiments can sneak up on me, and I have to really be diligent to make sure I have needed supplies on hand.A great book/s we read….Introduced Jacob to The New Sugar Creek Gang: The Case of the Dinosaur in the Desert, by Pauline Hutchens Wilson and Sandy Dengler. He’s really enjoyed this book. I myself have been poring over state guides and books for our trip this summer.:)
One lesson or interesting fact we learned….We learned what makes airplanes stay in the air. We also have been studying different states and learned that wagon ruts from (I think it was the Oregon Trail) still exist in some places. I just think that is so amazing.
We had a lightbulb moment this week…. Jacob is really flying with all his measurements and conversions in math. I had a lightbulb moment this week, when I decided that answer keys are in order for next year.:)
As Mom/teacher, I found this week to be….interesting.
A favorite hands-on project…. Jacob made Navajo Fry Bread in history this week, and it was quite tasty. We all enjoyed it. We had it with honey, peanut butter, or powdered sugar. Yum!
Favorite extracurricular activity (if any this week)…. Probably Cub Scouts; Jacob has a blast every single time.
We laughed when….we laugh all the time…I can’t remember.
Craft idea for this week….We’ve been so bad with this lately. We haven’t been crafting as much as usual.
I am praying for my children to….know God, not as some cruel God in the Heavens Who is out to get them….but as their Heavenly Father Who loves them and cares for them.
I am learning to….trust Him, be it ever so small as babysteps.
My favorite new resource is….at the risk of sounding like a plug, this is not an advertisement in any way, shape, or form….but I’m loving Educational Insights. They have some of the best educational toys and products on the market.

Homeschool Wrap-Up for April 23

Week of April 23 Homeschool Wrap-Up
Theme for our studies this week…. Actually, we kinda took a break from the norm, took a couple days off, and other days have worked on English and Math. It’s been rather nice.
A great book/s we read…. We’ve been reading a few books for Easter, and yesterday we read the cutest book, A Very Big Bunny, by Marisabina Russo. It’s about a bunny named Amelia who is very tall, and she feels very alone, as many of the students make fun of her. A new classmate arrives, though, and Amelia learns that it’s ok to be different. Such a great story. In a way, I could so relate to Amelia and how she was feeling because I remember feeling so awkward with my height.:)
One lesson or interesting fact we learned…. We learned that there is such a thing as an Easter Egg Tree (we’re behind the times a bit), and the tradition was brought here from Europe.
We had a lightbulb moment this week…. no lightbulb moment this week, really.
As Mom/teacher, I found this week to be…. a bit more relaxed.
A favorite hands-on project…. Jacob and Dan did do one science experiment left over from last week. They made a small wind winch. We also put together a small compost kit from Educational Insights for Earth Day.
Favorite extracurricular activity (if any this week)…. Oh yeah, we went to Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield and explored around.

We also got our national parks pass for this summer….so exciting! If I had a bucket list, I know one wish that would be toward the top, and that would be to show my kids as many of the national parks as possible because they are just so breathtakingly beautiful.
We laughed when…. we did laugh, but I can’t remember what about.:)
Craft idea for this week…. We dyed Easter eggs. Yay!

I am praying for my children to…. get along even when they grow up.
I am learning to…. that it’s so important to listen to my kids. All too soon, they will be grown.
My favorite new resource is…. It’s not really new, but if you do visit any of the national parks, you can get Junior Ranger books, so that your kids can earn their Junior Ranger Badges. It’s a lot of fun; we actually did this out at Rocky Mountain National Park. The rangers are so good with the kids, and Jacob learned so much about different animals, the land and climate, plants, etc. They even had a book for Jaden’s age.
