Since we got married, my husband has proven his skills in the kitchen; he’s quite the chef. I think maybe he’s passing his love for cooking down to my boys because they love to help out when we’re cooking, especially if it involves baking. Encouraging that love of
cooking is something I want to do. I firmly believe that cooking is a universal skill that everyone needs to learn, even my boys….that way, when they grow up, cooking is something they can rely on….they can enjoy….they can use on a daily basis.
Meanwhile, pretend play is important for them too, which is where the Pretend & Play Pro Chef Set comes in. Jacob’s a little old for this set, but it’s perfect for Jaden. The set includes a skillet, deluxe stock pot, saucepan, 2 lids, spatula, wooden spoon, oven mitt, and plastic play food (like a chicken leg, corncob, carrot, and fried egg). It also comes with a write and wipe guide that helps to enhance pretend play. The pans are almost exact miniatures of adult-sized pans, with handles, teflon-like coating inside, and more.
With this set kids can use their imaginations to the hilt, but they can also build fine motor skills and even practice skills such as stirring, flipping, etc. The write and wipe guide makes it even more educational with different food type activities. There are activities like picking the healthiest food choice, sorting, counting, tracing, and drawing. Because it’s dry erase, the guide can be used over and over again.
Personally, I’ve always said that when we get a bit larger house, I’m going to build a small DIY play kitchen for Jaden….and put it in the kitchen so he can play while we’re making dinner. This set will definitely come in handy then….but for now, he can still have tons of fun just pretending away at the kitchen table, on the floor, or wherever his heart desires. I will say that since we’ve gotten the set, a couple of the handles have broken off of the pans….the set does not feel flimsy, and they’re built very well; we’re wondering if maybe the boys stepped on the handles….but we’re really not sure. However, we were able to glue them back on.
