Inspirational Zingers Jumble

Inspirational Zingers Jumble

I love those variety logic puzzle books you can get in the magazine section of the store. They’re my way of winding down my brain at the end of the day–though I have several friends who can not comprehend how those help me wind down.

I found the Tyndale Inspirational Zingers Jumble comparable to one of those logic puzzle books though there were not half a many type of different logic puzzles to tackle. Still, the six kinds that were in there, gave my brain a bit of a workout and I’ll be finishing the entire book up as my evenings wear on.

At first, it was too easy. However, by the fifth puzzle, I was having to think, and saw that the puzzles grew in difficulty as the pages wore on.

Jumbles

A list of six words is given with a corresponding clue. They are scrambled and there are boxes below them to insert the unscrambled letters. Some of those boxes contain circles. Once the boxes are filled in, the circled letters form yet another scrambled word to work out and place into a sentenced clue.

Double Jumbles

Again, a six word list is provided, this time without corresponding clues (definitely raising the difficulty level). In the boxes below are the circles and now, diamonds are also added. The letters in these shapes must be unscrambled to form not one, but two mystery words.

Mystery Person Jumble

Five scrambled words are provided without clues (though they do revolve around a theme) and the usual squares with circles underneath them. The circled letters unscramble to form a person’s name, which goes with the “zinger”, aka, quote they said.

Word Search Jumble

A list of six words to unscramble. These words then can be found in a word search box to the right. They also contain a mystery word, as the above puzzles have done, using circles in the boxes.

Super Jumbles

A box of clues is given, in no particular order. They go along with a list of eight scrambled words. Following the typical scenario, they are unscrambled into boxes below with both diamonds and circles. The letter contained in those shapes then reveal two more mystery words to be unscrambled.

Criss Cross Jumble

This is like your typical cross word puzzle, except that you have to unscramble your clues to insert into the cross word puzzle. A scrambled word is given along with the clue. Once you insert that into the corresponding space (i.e. 1 across, 3 down) that space contains circles–which you guess it–can be unscrambled into another mystery word.

Although Inspirational Zingers Jumble weren’t as full of variety as my regular puzzle books and although they weren’t as difficult as them, I still enjoyed them and would more than likely pick up subsequent copies of them if I saw them in a store.

Take it From the Top; Adventures in Odyssy | Review and Giveaway!

Congrats to Sunshine girl on being our winner!!!

Adventures in Odyssey: Take it From the Top

Retail Value: $24.99

This 51st album does not have the Adventures in Odyssey that I remember from childhood but that does not take away from the brilliance of this long running radio drama (has it really been 23 years?!), created by Focus on the Family. Once a faithful Adventures in Odyssey fan, life has gotten in the way and I quit listening to it. Once I popped the first CD into the CD deck of our truck, however, I was swept away once again, by great radio acting. In some ways it seemed “right” that it was different. Time has passed, and with it, changes in the lives of those who dwell in Odyssey.

This album contains the following stories:

The Inspiration Station Part 1 and The Inspiration Station Part 2 ~ Inspiration

Connie gets a bit too hooked on Whit’s latest invention and relies on the calming places it takes her to, more than God to help her be the person she needs to be. Meanwhile, Matthew Parker finds himself in some hot water when he messes with other people’s electronic equipment.

Clutter ~ Storing up Treasures in Heaven

It’s time for the Parkers to get rid of some “stuff”. What will go and what will stay as they all learn the meaning of storing up treasures in heaven, rather than earth.

Game for a Mystery ~ Procrastination

In the Jones family, Barrett’s video game disappears when he plays it outside instead of doing what his father told him to do. Good thing he has his sister, the master detective, to figure out where it went–but not before Barrett learns a valuable lesson in not accusing people without evidence.

Target of the Week ~ The Folly of Revenge

Matthew Parker is the “next contestant” in the school bully’s “Target of the Week” game. Putting up with it for just so long, Matthew takes matters into his own hands, but doesn’t plan on that affecting all of Odyssy in the process!

For the Birds ~ Responsibility

Why are the birds attacking Eugene!? This is the story within the main story of the Parker children trying to convince their parent they could be responsible with a dog. They think they have a “curse” but through Whit’s wisdom and their own hard lesson with a baby bird, they realize it’s more of a responsibility issue than it is a curse.

When You’re Right, You’re Right ~ Pride

Emily Jones thinks she is always right – and sometimes she is. But when it comes to helping out her brother Barrett, with his “romance” she finds that her way isn’t exactly the best way.

Grandma’s Visit ~ The Importance of Family

Leave it to the Parker family to have a dramatic abuelita visit! (That’s Grandma in English) Their Aunt Rosalita has decided to get married–at their house–that weekend Life goes into chaos mode as they try to get ready.

Finish What You . . . ~ Responsbility

Olivia Parker is a young lady with a problem. She can’t say “no!” Not when everything looks so fun, like guitar lessons with Eugene and starring in Connie’s play. In an episode most kids in today’s busy world are going to be able to relate to, Olive learns about balance.

The Jubilee Singers, Part 1, 2, and 3 ~ Perseverance

The most touching of all the episode, listeners will learn right along with Olivia Parker as a talking portrait tells her about the Jubilee Singers—a group of African-American students, most of them with a slave background, who use their voices to save their school.

Is this album worth the list price? Yes. They are done well and have character development object lessons that kids will pick up at the same time they are being entertained.

Giveaway!

Because my daughter is not yet old enough to enjoy these stories, I would like to give away my review copy to a family that can use them! Please leave your name and email with a comment of which story you would most like your children to listen to.
